I do not understand the connection between mobile phones and the computer, especially with relation to Google.
I know the computer is on a wifi network and my phone is on a phone contract with a different provider, but as I use Google on both of them does that mean everything I write on one can be accessed on the other?
I need to know as I am still wanting to purchase a new phone but I don’t want all my emails on Google to come up on it. At present I email on the laptop because I can print on that and I never connect the two.
However I believe that as I send emails to myself from the phone to the computer it is obvious that, even although I use a different name, it is the same person. Am I stupid to want to keep them separate? Is it even possible?
I am the last person to be able to help you with technology. I am a lost soul. Ha, ha. Good luck, Muriel

A mobile phone is simply a mini computer with the addition of a phone. Some are extremely powerful and plenty of people use them instead of a traditional computer.
Just like we all do, I imagine that at some point you gave the phone access to your wireless network. Your phone calls and texts will go though your mobile phone provider. Anything else you do will use your wireless network.
If there’s no wireless network available, the phone will switch to your data allowance from your mobile phone provider.
Having an e-mail account on the phone is a convenient way of checking important messages when on the move or away from home. E-mail accounts are designed to synchronise so can be accessed from all your devices. Computer, phone, tablet etc.
If you don’t want to access your e-mails from your phone then go to settings, followed by Mail and delete your e-mail account.
Google is a search engine and works in exactly the same way as it does on your computer. If you’re out somewhere different you might need to find a map or other information. You don’t have to use it.
Next time you buy a phone, plan ahead and think about what you need from a phone and ask the shop to set it up for you, but first tell them what you do and do not want on the phone. And if you’re not going to use any of applications, then don’t buy an expensive one, and maybe think about whether you actually need a new phone and especially if the phone is working perfectly fine and all you use it for is a few calls and texts.

Thanks Sue. I have never given the phone access to my network. It has a separate email. However I do use it to surf, using the data allowance. It’s easier than setting up my laptop. I think my problem may be whatsapp. Finding a helpful salesman is the first step.

In my experience the salespeople seem to have more time first thing in the morning and on weekdays. All the best with your search. 🙂
